In what has become a really fun annual event, I went flying with Gunter outside of Kirn, Germany.

This month’s film, “Cherry Blossom” is showing at the Barns in Berryville, March 30th, 7:30 p.m.; $5.00/ticket, children under 15 free. In German/Japanese w/English s/t. NR; 124 minutes.

This highly praised 2008 film tells the story of an elderly husband suffering from a terminal illness who begins to appreciate his wife on a whole new level after she dies suddenly during a trip to see their children and grandchildren in Berlin. Rudi dedicates his remaining days to realizing Trudi’s unfulfilled dreams and traveling to Tokyo to celebrate her life during the breathtaking cherry blossom festival — a colorful festival staged to celebrate beauty, impermanence, and new beginnings.

“An ideal blend of character study, deceptive plot twists, inspired acting and travelogue” (SF Chronicle).

This is our third movie of the season, and we’d love to see you there!

The Mosquito Turns 100,000

For its 100,000 mile anniversary, the mosquito got a new timing belt. May it zoom along for another 100,000 miles without incident.

Sproing

When I was in Germany, Spring began to sproing.

Jonquils? Daffodils? Amy would know.

Tulips and a goat.

Virginia Bluebells by the river. Peaking.

The garden is in the act too. One day these will be strawberries.

And the dogs are frisky too.

Making Music in Heidelberg

Meanwhile in Heidelberg, Micele mixes some fresh, tasty electronica. Just the thing to keep packet wars interesting. We did run out of rum, however.

Snake chase

A mess of wires behind the TV.

Hides a Spring milk snake.

Which got away.

Turtle rescue

One the way back from greater metropolitan Berryville, Jack and I came across (and almost went across) a snapping turtle in the road.

Why did the snapping turtle stop crossing the road?

We moved it over to the side with a stick. The turtle kept biting the end of the stick off. It was not happy.

Mountain Bitters

Round about December, I started playing (all original) music with Allen Kitselman and Clark Hansbarger. Sometimes Mike Jewell plays too…that is, when he can tear his attention away from virtual video racing.

On Saturday we did some recording at the cabin in Waterford. An intense day (6 hours or so of concentration and fun), but damn that was good.

Being a fiddle player, I was relegated to the washer/dryer/refrigerator closet behind a curtain. Damn noisy instrument.

Banned behind the curtain.

Hmm. I’m not even sure if that mic was on come to think of it.

Long live musica with the Mountain Bitters.

Sunshine on my shoulders…
