3. ceremony

Romey and Gary McGraw were married Sunday 5.25.25 at the Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh in the loving presence 100 guests. We decided to create and execute our own very-much-unique ceremony during which we declared ourselves married.

Our vows were authored independently of each other and we revealed them only during the ceremony. So everything was almost as much of a surprise to us as it was to our witnesses.

After Walt’s movie had everyone gathered and laughing in the auditorium, our guests processed to us, picking up red glasses, champagne, and banana cookies on their way to gather around us—kind of a reverse procession. Looking out over the room from the dias as the quartet played Florence was excellent and moving. Not only were many of our most loved people present from all over the world, they all had red glasses on. The scene was reminiscent of an audience shot taken in a 1950s 3D movie auditorium.

Everything got started with a toast to 5.25.25 (five fives for the win). Any guess what Romey’s favorite number is? You should know that one of the reasons we are so close as a couple is that our favorite numbers are only 41,999,995 integers apart.

We exchanged vows, exchanged rings with a kiss, declared ourselves married, and performed and collectively sang Country Roads. Maybe we should have practiced the round. LOL.

To wrap up the ceremony, we took our first five steps as married people to Max Richter’s rewrite of Vivaldi’s Spring.

We turned the pictures posted above into a book which we had printed by mimeo. A pdf copy of the 5.25.25-book is here. The official copy can be visited at our house by appointment.

Of course there were gazillions of pictures taken. Here is a rather huge pile (though it is considerably less than 42,000,000). Click on a picture for higher resolution rendering.
