Romey’s dad volunteered for the WV State Park system for decades. When he was honored for this work in May 2024, a dedication requiring an act of state government was in progress. The James R Michael Gazebo was dedicated on June 15, 2025.

Of course this meant a potluck featuring banana pudding which disappeared so fast that there is no photographic evidence. Jim had ice cream. It was like a magic energy elixer.

People had stuff to say.

And then we ambled down to see the new plaque.

All in all it was a great father’s day present for Jim on one of his last public outings.

Shenandoah River Run

Maybe three years have gone by since we last did the run from Locke’s Landing back home on the river. We’ve been heading downstream into West Virginia instead. It’s absolutely striking how much more development there is on the river in Virginia than West Virginia. Wild and Wonderful indeed! Fewer motorcycles, cars, roads, campers, motor boats, and people. More eagles, cows, and trees. Looks like the WV run from now on.
