In the first post-pandemic (that is, fully vaccinated) art opening, we were psyched to see some pastel and pencil by Tia Maggio. No longer local, Tia lives in Massachusetts. Much of her current work is inspired by views to be found near her home.
Our friend Tia Maggio just opened a shared space show, Mosaic, at youngblood in The Plains. The show also features sculpture by Chilean artist Carlos Edwards.

Tia Maggio on point
Tia’s new work, interspersed with pictures from previous phases, was inspired by time in Moroco.

What’s the Matterhorn by Tia Maggio

Carlos Edwards told me about working with a stack of potatoes as inspiration for some of his work in granite. So remember: test the water with your potatoes before you jump in.

Memories of You by Tia Maggio
We added a third Tia piece to our collection. What appealed to us in this piece was the depth of field.
Bouquet by Tia Maggio
Catch the show while it is still on, and while you’re in town, have a margarita or two (enhanced with extra tequila and lime) at El Agave.
The best place to eat in the Plains? El Agave, hands down.
Our plan was to go to the real opening shindig, but we were thwarted by the new equine arrivals! Not to worry. We made our own opening+1.
Tia Maggio works in pastels and does very intricate, delicate work with beautiful lines and lots of movement. The colors are not “easter colors” in case that’s what you’re thinking. Tia’s work can be dark and mysterious or summery and light. Whole spectrum. Great work. We’re proud to have some of Tia’s stuff in our collection at Apothecary Shed.
Tia Maggio’s Show at Duvall Gallery
One of the great things about the Duvall Gallery is that it is an old old building. The patina inside is a striking and effective offset for the work. So glad it is not boring and white.
Of course, an opening+1 requires a nice cocktail. The doctor’s bag was handy.

Oh look, it’s apothecaryshedster!
Yes, we had fun! And we learned about some of Tia’s methods and inspiration.
