A Boat in Bruges

Some of us have been to bruge 4 or 5 times. Others 10,000. Still others once. But we all got on the same boat, and it was great.

We found an opportunistic window of blue sky.

On the Boat in Amsterdam

Romey and I hired a boat for a canal tour. We also hired a bottle of champagne. The boat ride was excellent.

We started from the pier at the Okura just after dark.

The boat itself was built of teak and glass in 1903.

The lights are a sight to see.

Windmill Lane Recording Studios

I guess visiting a recording studio and scratching the surface of the craft is appealing for some. Windmill Lane certainly has its share of history. But when you have recorded a ton of records, the magic becomes more like hard work. Anyway, we paid a visit to Windmill Lane while in Dublin to see where Voodoo Lounge really is.

U2 records all of their records with these guys…including my absolute favorite. Mastering is done elsewhere.

A bunch of others record there too, including Miley, Kate Bush, and Springsteen.  Run up that hill much?

The tour itself is interesting if you don’t know anything at all about recording, but beyond basic if you do. That’s OK. Hilarious that the space is really not all that expensive to build even with the top stuff. I guess for me, music is the people and not so much the place.

We signed the wall and walked on by.

Redeem Yourself in Rio with Tourism

When in Rio, you must tourist.  As part of D&C’s wedding extravaganza, we did the tour thing.

First it was up up up…

The fun part about up was Canadians.

To the big concrete Jesus.

What has become of the holy head?

We’re just here for the views, not to curry favor with invisible father figures.

Two tiny helicopters buzzing the tourists.

Then it was down down down to the Santa Teresa stairs (Escadaria SelarĂ³n).

The fun part about down was the kids from Chile.

Some philosophizing was done. It might even have been mandatory.

Something’s fishy here
