Pittsburgh Symphony Plays Prokofiev

In town on yet another wedding planning trip (woo hoo!), we attended the Pittsburgh Symphony. Incredible!

MARÍA HULD MARKAN SIGFÚSDÓTTIR: Oceans [PSO Premiere]
PROKOFIEV: Violin Concerto No. 2
SIBELIUS: The Oceanides [PSO Premiere]
DEBUSSY: La Mer

Vadim Gluzman was excellent.  As always the Prokofiev was the best thing.

April Claggett Warhol Art

Ah yes. 5/25/25 approaches. Four shots from the black and white party (shot by donnie gray) put into a Warholesque pattern by the excellent April Claggett.

Here is a black and white version suitable for silk screening (hint hint).

DJ Williams Back Home in RVA

Well, not really back home. DJ Williams now lives in Colorado. But his roots are in Richmond.

We went to see DJ perform at Anytime Beer Company. Honestly, though the brewery might be awesome, we’re just not beer people. In fact, before the show was on, we spent some time next door at the Lion’s Den Cigar Bar and had way more fun. But hot damn is DJ Williams excellent and the band is tight.

We were on a secret scouting mission for our up coming 5/25/25 nuptials. So glad he is involved in the plan!

Of course there was xmas music. Obligatory.

Emily Shepardson Art

It seemed like time for a show.  And it was!  We just had to ask.

So it was off to the Lee Arts Center to see what Emily Shepardson has whipped up  as of late.  We stocked up as usual.

Romey and Joan are scheming again.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, Maybe was making some art of her own.  Or maybe it was just a mess.

The Art Institute of Chicago Remains Incredible

More art in Chicago, according to plan. The Art Institute of Chicago is one of the best art museums in the world.

The Chagall stained glass is, alone, worth the price of admission.

America, what has become of you?

But there’s lots more.

Chicago, Chicago, It’s my kind of town.

Champagne at Tiffany (no not that one, the one in Chicago)

It wasn’t really the plan, but it did get one of the items scratched off the list! An afternoon at the MCA was topped only by a visit to Tiffany on the way back to the hotel to check out their wedding rings. Yeah, we got some.

Yeah, they are beautiful.

After art

MCA Chicago: Our Favorite Stairway

We came to Chicago for art, and so art it was. On Sunday after arrival we had an excellent brunch at Marisol and then headed up to steep in the collection at the MCA.

No visit to the MCA is complete without a visit to the best stairway on the planet.

An original musical, Orange on the Blue Ridge was performed twice at the BORH. Here are some pictures. (More information can be found on Facebook…not linked here).

Babbitt Just a Little Too Close to Home

Babbitt, written by Sinclair Lewis in a different age, still strikes way too close to home. Politics as blustering entertainment and bullshit is still a huge problem, especially in a country as downright stupid as the United States.

Matthew Broderick was great.

. Harmon Hall is an excellent theater.

Dinner at Izakaya was very good, though don’t try parking there on game day! Parking was a challenge, but McGraw luck held.
