Sugarloaf on the Last Day

Our first trip as fiancés was our last sidetrip in Rio. Up sugarloaf. Leaving this for last was a good plan. Make sure to get tickets on the net in advance and definitely spring for the VIP thing.

It all starts at the red beach on a 90+ degree day.

Fortunately there is Casa Que Doce nearby for some respite before the ascent.

And then it’s up up up on a guided tour.

First station.

And then more up to the top. We walked around the gardens and had a bite at the sunset grill (where our news leaked when Noelie called). Yes, we were engaged.

Black diamonds drip.

Then back down to reality, the metal tube home, and winter.

Home to Chez Georges, where a last Caipirinha, and a trip to GIG were in store.

Iulie on the Farm

We always spend time outside when Iulie comes to stay.

Iule’s tree (see this posting) with no leaves.

This time we loaded up the truck with hay bales and went to visit Donkey Hodie at his new home.

Iulie remembers Hotie.

Her favorite was the three legged goat.

Our traditional walk on the trail goes beside the Shenandoah river. Some time for quiet reflection before the walk back.

October beach: Sun Down, Moon Up

Because this beach faces South, the sun can go down and the moon can come up on opposite sides of the beach.

Sun down

Moon up

And then the next morning, the sun can come up while the moon sets.

The Stick in October is ideal.  What people?  We’re not in Norway anymore, moonie.

River Run with Joan and John

Ah, the Shenandoah.  Though the river is desperately low this summer, floating down it is relaxing and wonderful.

The JoanJohn monster glom.

The romey.

All together now.

And then we had cocktails and played a little music.  Yes please!

Irises for your iris

Irises are my favorite flower.  So we have lots of them and are always looking for more.

Not an iris.

Three different days.  Three different snakes.  This eastern black snake was on the trail by the river.

This long black racer lives under the red shed.  We see him pretty often.

This rat snake was also on the trail by the river.

It’s funny how non-poisonous snakes act all dangerous and really dangerous snakes just disappear.

Spring Peak #2

Spring springs eternal.   Or around here, at least three times.  This is peak number 2 of 2023 Spring.

Bleeding heart in bloom.

This is the flaming bush from the old testament (as far as I know anyway).

For more bluebells, see this posting.
