Summer on the River

During the time of the dog days, this is what we see.

Lots of trees down this summer due to chaotic weather (weeks of drought followed by an intense several day tropical storm).

Monday on the Shenandoah

It’s so nice to be out on the river in May…on a Monday…with friends…and champagne!

The Dame’s Rocket is still going on the banks.

Snapper!

Eagle’s nest on Island one.  We missed finding one from last year.  Must be gone.

Lunch on a rock featuring Tim Tams and Veuve Cliquot.

All champagne models are over 18.

We always spend time outside when Iulie comes to stay.

Iule’s tree (see this posting) with no leaves.

This time we loaded up the truck with hay bales and went to visit Donkey Hodie at his new home.

Iulie remembers Hotie.

Her favorite was the three legged goat.

Our traditional walk on the trail goes beside the Shenandoah river. Some time for quiet reflection before the walk back.

It was a thoughtful and very peaceful float.

Dark and Stormy on the water.

Down to the river

Checking on the new tree (planted earlier this year).

River Run with Joan and John

Ah, the Shenandoah.  Though the river is desperately low this summer, floating down it is relaxing and wonderful.

The JoanJohn monster glom.

The romey.

All together now.

And then we had cocktails and played a little music.  Yes please!

Stairway to the Shenandoah

During the solstice party prep, I was surprised to find out that our trusty stairs had disintegrated all at once catastrophically.

New stairs solves the problem.  Looks like this will last a decade.

What goes down.

Also leads back up.

The Shenandoah is drying out after a month of no rain.  Climate change is going to really suck even on the east coast.

Spring Peak Three: Rocket Time

What’s the difference between Dame’s Rocket and Prairie Phlox?  Why the difference between four and five (and alternate toothed leaves).  This is rocket on the trail by the river that we walk every day.

Moonshine

And some black locust to perfume the air.

Bluebells Peak April 2, 2023

It’s early for the peak.  But the peak it is along the banks of the Shenandoah.

Romey looks like a bluebell too.

Moonshine does not look like a bluebell.  Nor does he smell like one.

There are also other flowers available.
