Bluebells 2024

This year, the bluebells first started leafing up out of the ground on March 1st.  And on the 24th the peak was beginning.  Early early.

Good thing global warming is not real.

This is Maybeline’s first bluebell season.

Poetry or Poultry? What’s the difference?

The chicks have reached three weeks old.

Baby Chicks in Winter

While we were in Rio, Esperanza decided to let one of the hens brood.  She sat 12 eggs.  Every one of them hatched after 21 days. Right on schedule.

Peeps everywhere!

First hour…

Second day moving down…

Everyone seems to be fine a week later. Only one peep didn’t make it so far.

Iulie on the Farm

We always spend time outside when Iulie comes to stay.

Iule’s tree (see this posting) with no leaves.

This time we loaded up the truck with hay bales and went to visit Donkey Hodie at his new home.

Iulie remembers Hotie.

Her favorite was the three legged goat.

Our traditional walk on the trail goes beside the Shenandoah river. Some time for quiet reflection before the walk back.

Morning light by the fire is a great way to start a birthday.

And, who doesn’t want a cow knee?  Everybody wants one.

Maybe the Puppy

Her real name is Maybelline.  But we call her Maybe.  We picked her up from the breeder at 8 weeks.  She is a second generation golden doodle and should top out around 30 pounds.  Three weeks later, she is part of the family and all dogs are happy again.

Here is Maybe’s arrival at home.

Moonshine, the 110 pound golden meets his new sister and pack member.

Moonshine has been excellent with the puppy so far.

First visit to the salon!  Maybe is destined to be a shop dog.

The 2023 batch of chicks has arrived.  12 peeps: 6 barred rock and 6 noir marans.

Moonshine would like to eat the peeps.

One week later, the peeps were twice as big.  They will be introduced to the flock on April 20th.
