Always a pleasure to have a cocktails, salad, and pizza night with our Catoctin Creek buddies and Baker Bob.  This iteration included cake and a special appearance by eddie.

Maybe Turns One (and I Turn 1+57)

It all started in the morning with the birthday puppy Maybeline.

She was excited about becoming a dog. Boot did not care.

There were presents from Romey and espresso in bed.

We left maybe behind for a birthday brunch at the Green Pig Bistro in Arlington. Brunch was delicious. Presents were fantastic. But it was the company we loved the most.

Maybeline had a howl about it.

And then it was time for cake for the other birthday boy. We picked up the cake while in civilization (ordered ahead from the Bakeshop).

The cake is so good. Nobody ever believes us when we tell them.

We were gathered around the bar for Seelbachs and cake.

Moonie wanted to be part of the scene.

But when offered the chance, he demurred.

Poetry or Poultry? What’s the difference?

Cat Power Plays Bob

Heading into DC for a show is always fun. This time, Romey and I headed to Lincoln Theater to see someone named Cat play a bunch of songs written and performed almost 60 years earlier by someone named Bob.

The songs, by now, have become quite famous.  Rhine and I play a bunch of them together and have done for years.

Here is a snippet of Like a Rolling Stone (the last song)

But before that, we made a highly-recommended stop at Busboys and Poets for some food and drink.  Delicious and socially conscious at the same time.

The cocktail was named after Langston Hughes.  The pie was absolutely completely unnecessary.

The band was quite fantastic, that is really what I think.  Finally, electric! Tell me, momma.

And that was after a kind of longish acoustic set. Harmonica thresholds may have been exceeded.

Baby let me follow you down.

The interlude.

All in all, a great show. Sure would be great if DC learned how to dance though.

A Clean Moonshine?

Say it ain’t so.  The farm dog gets groomed.  And then is rewarded with a visit to the salon.

Meanwhile at the farm, the salon dog goes wild…

After Wine? Family Dinner

Wine?  Yeah wine.

Then a Negroni or maybe an Industry Sour in Hollywood central.  And then some dinner at Bollywood with the extended Rivers clan.

Oh yeah, bikes on the beach.

These socks were not there. Tell no one.

Jorma at McCabes (Hot Tuna)

I mean how can you top that?  Incredible musician in the absolute best place to experience a band in LA—McCabe’s Guitar Shop.

And not just Jorma, Jack Cassady too!

Lots of blues was had. Those 12 bars ringin.

Time to reflect.

There are no bad seats in the house. But there are a couple of excellent ones.

If you go, plan to buy an instrument or two.

Baby needs new shoes.

And maybe a digeridoo too.
