Savannah Side Quest: “the cathedral”

We put this here for comparison with the real Notre Dame coming up soon.  Americans are so wrong about everything. The Cathedral of St John the Babtist is supposed to be similar to Notre Dame de Paris. But it is a basilica. And it is in Georgia.

Jimmy Carter was here.

Savannah Side Quest: SCAD Beach and Art Museum

There is a beach right next to the art pile. Take a rest on the biggest porch swing you have ever been on.

Then art.

The exhibit spaces are exquisite.

Complementary Sigur Ros approved butt plugs for all. More about the stunning video installation here.

The Savannah African Art Museum is a gem. Go visit. If you are lucky, you will wrangle a guided tour. Incredible place chock full of stuff you don’t know.

Savannah Side Quest: Tybee or not Tybee

Ah yes, the beach. It was either warm or cold.

But temperature alone is no deterrent. In fact there may not be a deterrent.

This video above should be viewed while humming Bolero.

Of course no side quest to tybee (or not tybee) is complete without a visit to bubba gumbo.

Here you will find a line of locals at happy hour happy to wait for a sticky table and most any kind of fresh deep fried seafood. We taught them to make Zombies, and we bet that next time we go there everyone will be drinking them. Here we met a very dynamic and zany woman (about which more on our next quest to the African Art Museum).

Savannah Side Quest: The SCAD Experience

Really the only way to experience the experience is to have faculty privileges. Or maybe mushrooms would be fun.

SCAD is distributed all over. This makes Savannah extra special. Kind of like hot sauce on eggs.

The two queens.

The farm market is fun to visit come a Saturday. And the trees. Walk barefoot on penalty of death by henpeck.

Savannah Side Quest: Art Show at Cedar House Gallery

One of the great advantages of knowing April is that she has a bead on the bustling art scene in Savannah. We went to see an opening at Cedar House Gallery before an unbelievable dinner at Elizabeth on 37th.

The opening was packed and fun to wander around in.

But dinner? Out of this world.
