Groundhogs Must Die

I mean the poor innocent groundhog was only sunning himself BY THE GARDEN. Good dog.

All groundhogs must die.

Iulie in August

returning from a walk

Iulie has spent lots of time with us this summer. Something that we cherish. She is all farm girl, taking walks, picking vegetables in the garden, visiting the chickens, and playing with the dogs.

Iulie named the poulets: marshmallow, chocolate, graham and cracker.

We are reading The Book of Three together this summer.

Goofball.

But under the soon to be second grader is a little girl.

Bye Boot

Boot was an excellent cat. He arrived as a “free” rescue who quickly became a $400 kitty due to a testicle stowed away inside his body. This explains why he was spraying in the house (and thus relegated to the barn until correction). But after that he lived a good cat life, pretending to be a dog.

Boot went for walks.

Boot was the best mouser we have ever had.

Boot’s claws were sharp even when he died.

Boot loved his milk.

At the end, Boot tried his damnedest to sneak in. Constantly.

Today we put Boot down and buried him in the pet cemetery on the hill. Bye bootie.

No Kings, Just Good Boys

Moonshine was by far the most popular protester at the Berryville No Kings rally. At least 1000 people showed up..a very impressive number in this speck of a town. And people were pissed. But they were civil.

WE WILL HAVE NO KING IN THE UNITED STATES. Moonshine says so.

Moonshine, who weighs in at 110 pounds, met a tiny little dog.

We all sang the national anthem. This is OUR fucking country.

And then a march proceeded from Rose Hill Park to the corner of 340 and Main street (just in front of Romey’s shop). Romey provided some water for the pups. Maybeline (who was at work) came out to join us as everyone walked by.

The MAGA morons may catch on yet. They are in a tiny minority.

Peeps

This year we’re adding 12 chickens to the mix. Instead of hatching our own, we’re expanding the flock with 6 rhode island reds and 6 barred rocks. The poulets from tractor supply must be a bit older because they are very robust.

The peeps are in the usual water trough “stadium” in the barn.
